Sunglass Trends

26 Mar

The eyes have been a fascination for eons. They are the mirrors to our soul and poets have rightly romanticized them, artists have immortalised them on canvas & the latest digital cameras, have captured the beauty of our eyes for posterity.

The one thing that has fascinated us for generations, are sunglasses. From Nero spectating gladiator fights through polished gemstones and Chinese judges of old, hiding behind smoky quartz that was finely polished, to the aviators worn by American pilots & adorned the faces of numerous celebrities.
We have all loved to hide our eyes from the sun, the elements, the odd looks and glances & have made sunglasses an unavoidable part of our life.

As a utility item meant for protection, sunglasses have turned into a fashion statement & people who wear them will undeniably swear by them too. They’re just too cool!
For leading brands like Oakley, Ray-Ban, Maui Jim, Serengeti and the rest, utility & fashion go hand in hand, with something for everyone. The technology & innovation has evolved to bring newer styles, newer frames & lenses of impeccable quality and strength.

To talk about the latest trending our sight of vision there is quite the selection.

Spectacle & Sunglasses Trends

8 Sep

Spectacle frames and sunglasses have for long transcended their intended purposes and emerged as fashion accessories. And the trends are dynamic, ever-changing, and exciting. So what are the current trends that will help you keep pace with the world of trendy glasses?

  • Big & Bold – Big & oversized frames are the in thing. It doesn’t matter if they’re a touch too big for your face. Buy them, wear them with confidence, and flaunt your inner flamboyance!

  • Sporty but Small – Gone are the days of full wrap around reflectors for sports-glasses. It’s the age of minimalism now. So if you’re the sporty type, look for glasses that are wrap-around, but small in size

  • Vintage – Anything retro is red-hot. And it is no different when it comes to sunglasses and spectacle frames. Classic shapes from the iconic 60’s & 70’s. Wayfarers, Aviators, they’re all in. And the funkier the colors, the better!

  • Dual Tone – Who said office-wear has to be boring, or formal wear glasses must be plain. It’s the age of merging colors, hues, and dual tones. Look out for subtle but fun dual colored frames and show off your personality

  • Office Chic – No longer is it ‘nerdy’ to be wearing glasses to work. Just like it is fashionable to work at Facebook or Google, as are the glasses. Rim-less is a great way to go

  • Geeked Out – Just like ‘nerdy’ is the new cool, there is suddenly new-found beauty in the geeky too! Typically geeky styles are totally in and make a great statement with otherwise sharp dressing

It’s a riot out there, and the choice of trendy frames is virtually limitless. For a more in-depth trend-spotting of the season, check out this video, and remember to always shop at the best opticians!

Happy framing!

Trends Set By Celebrities In Eye Wear

26 Aug

Popular culture is the one place where we find our inspiration for many things. Fashion is one aspect of our lives that is heavily influenced by the world of films. And what film stars wear on or off-screen, makes its way into our imaginations, and eventually on to our persons, very quickly.

Like everything else, eye-wear too is something that has always been influenced by celebrities. From way back in the 60’s to more modern times; both in India and abroad; film stars have always donned eye wear fashions that have caught the collective imagination of an entire people, and become massive trends in the process.

For us Indians, there are certain images from popular culture that remain indelibly imprinted in our minds. And be it our parents generation or the present young India, we have always been enamored with the eye wear musings of stars and celebrities. Think back and the trend will become obvious. John Lennon from the Beatles immortalized the small round frames, that were so famously always worn by the father of our nation, and in fact have since been called Gandhi glasses. Then there were the greats like Sophia Loren, whose stylish frames became a world-wide rage through decades.

Similarly, for an entire generation of people abroad and here, Tom Cruise wore the now staple Aviators in the film Top Gun, and so cataclysmic was the effect, that the entire world upped and ran to get themselves aviator sunglasses. Closer home too, there have been a number of celebrities who have influenced eye wear in a big way. Arshad Warsi’s red tinted glasses in the iconic Munnabhai film also became quite the rage, as did Preiti Zinta’s spectacles from Kal Ho Na Ho. Even now, and even off-screen, celebrities have taken wholeheartedly to wearing glasses, ones that are often mimicked by the public at large. There is Kiran Rao for instance, then there is designer Krsna Mehta, and scores of other celebrities including the badshah himself, who is never seen without his trademark rim-less red hand spectacles, making everyone run in a scurry to have the same pair as SRK

While it is great to be influenced by celebrities in eye-wear, it is also important to know which frame type will suit you. So keep watching this space because that’s what we’ll tell you about, next time! Until then, stay eye-fashionable!
